Her first leading performance was opposite John Hurt, Dawn French, and Jennifer Saunders in a scene from Jim Henson’s dream sequence The Storyteller in 1988. She played the character Sapsorrow in that scene.
Doody co-starred opposite Jonathan Pryce in the low-budget production Selling Hitler, which was enlivened by the circulating distortion that is often referred to as the Hitler Diaries. As a direct result, she relocated to Hollywood. After being chosen to replace Cybill Shepherd as a spokeswoman for L’Oréal, she went on to portray the role of Charlie Sheen’s better half and expert, Flannery, in the 1994 film Major League II. Her role in the film was inspired by Cybill Shepherd. After almost ten years away from the spotlight, Doody made her acting comeback with a small role in the film The Actors, starring alongside Michael Caine.
