An independent agency under the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training Division, the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) Islamabad was founded in accordance with the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Act of 1975. It has the administrative and financial authority to organise, regulate, develop, and control intermediate and secondary education in general and to administer examinations in the institutions that are affiliated with it.

Additionally, it is tasked with controlling the overall direction of education. The Islamabad Capital Territory, the whole of Pakistan (including cantonments and garrisons), the federally administered northern areas, and overseas are all included in the FBISE’s sphere of jurisdiction.
