Realism – the style of the XIX – XX centuries. Reality is depicted with the help of historicism and colloquial vocabulary, prototypes are used – typical heroes in typical circumstances. The behavior of the hero is clearly motivated by the conditions and era of his life.

Naturalism is the style of the last third of the 19th century. Strives for an accurate and objective depiction of the characters and the world around them. Life and physiological characteristics of the human body are the main interest for the author.

Symbolism – the style of 1870 – 1910. Much attention is paid to musicality and mysticism. The main meaning can be caught only in the symbol. You can find a lot of allusions to classical and medieval works of literature.

Postmodernism is the style of the second half of the 20th century. It is characterized by intertextuality, parody, multi-level organization of the text.
