Glasgow Caledonian University – The School of Computing, Engineering & Built Environment
About:
Glasgow Caledonian University is a unique, inclusive and visionary university that is committed to its social mission of advancing the common good. We have become an international center of excellence in higher education, facilitating the employability and global citizenship of our graduates. We receive awards for our support and commitment to the student experience, and for driving innovation through our world-class research in key areas. We have a tradition of expanding access to higher education for talented individuals from all backgrounds, and we use our intellectual and social capital to benefit the communities we serve in Scotland and abroad.
We strive to contribute to society in ways that go beyond the traditional role of the university. GCU’s commitment to “For the Common Good” is brought to life and implemented by students and staff of academic schools and faculties.
GCU’s extensive experience in information technology, engineering and construction is concentrated in the School of Engineering and the Built Environment. Our support staff are experts in their field; well-connected leaders in areas such as IT security and web development, environmental protection, telecommunications, surveying and construction services. Our built environment research and connections with industry leaders in growing markets such as game design make us an interesting choice for students, staff and researchers.
Interagency collaboration allows the school to offer a stimulating, unparalleled range of learning and flexible learning options, combining traditional knowledge with best practices.
We are particularly proud of our industry connections and partnerships with professional organizations that provide industry-standard learning in our curriculum that reflects the changing needs of the labor market. In addition, we are fortunate to host a large number of part-time students every year who have extensive practical experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
More than 200 teachers work in three departments of the school. Our main result, in line with the University’s strategy, is to educate students at the highest level and produce highly qualified graduates with degrees accredited by leading national and international bodies.
We work to support the common good through our role in educating students from socially difficult backgrounds, through our innovative support for the public sector, and through our research for the good of society.
The Department of Engineering is highly respected nationally and internationally for teaching, research and advice.
