She was effective, performing on the visit while pondering whether or not to try out for the Aboriginal-created play Wrong Skin, which led to her being asked to try out for the production.

In 2018, Hick started a social media campaign with the hashtag #ourkidsbelongwithfamilies. This campaign soon became a “energising cry” of Indigenous Australians fighting to keep their families together in the face of evacuations.
