About
The University of Sussex is a leading research university near Brighton. We have both international and local perspectives, with staff and students from over 100 countries and frequent participation in community events and services.
The University has 16,820 students (2017-18 full-time equivalent) of whom about a quarter are graduate students. 76% of our student population are UK or EU students and 24% are international students.
Creative thinking, diversity in our learning, intellectual challenges and interdisciplinarity have always been fundamental to education in Sussex.
Our goal is to offer teaching and learning programs based on current research that are attractive to students of all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and provide skills for life.
We bring staff and students from over 100 countries to our campus and nearly a third of our staff come from outside the UK.
Our research tackles the world’s major issues with leading areas of expertise such as climate change and development studies.
We have extensive connections with institutions around the world such as Peking University, National Taiwan University and the Harvard-Sussex program.

Sussex has a long tradition of engaging with business and the community, which continues today through events such as the Sussex Innovation Centre, public lectures and community services.
Our goal is to help businesses and organizations in the region develop a higher level of workforce through training and drive innovation through partnerships with other institutions outside of Sussex to benefit the wider community.
The Sussex Innovation Center supports the creation and growth of technology and knowledge based companies in Sussex.
The Center is currently a thriving business environment for nearly 80 high-growth companies.
Since its inception, more than 160 companies have been founded in the Center; their combined income exceeds £250m and they employ hundreds of people locally.

Sussex is a leading research university as reflected in the 2014 Research Framework (REF).
Over 75% of research activity in Sussex is categorized as world-leading (4*) or international (3*) in terms of originality, relevance and rigor.

Sussex’s story has been ranked the highest in the UK for the quality of research results.
Sussex English has increased from 31st to 9th across the UK since the last assessment survey in 2008
84% of the university’s research impact in psychology was rated as the highest possible score, 4*
Geography Sussex Geography had the largest 4* impact on research of any geography featured across the UK.
Overall, the university ranked 36th (out of multidisciplinary institutions) in terms of grade point average (GPA).
