Early Years Shihabi was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, however she spent her childhood in Saudi Arabia, Beirut, and Dubai. She received her education in Saudi Arabia.
Her family has roots in the Palestinian territory of Israel. She described her multiethnic background as follows: “I see myself as Arab European on the grounds that my father is half-Saudi and half-Norwegian, and my mother is half-Palestinian, half-German and Haitian, yet brought up in the south of France.”

When she was 11 years old, she began taking dance classes from Sharmilla Kamte, a well-known move teacher at the Dubai Community Theater and Arts Center Chaloub Studio. Sharmilla Kamte is renowned as the “moving sovereign” of the United Arab Emirates. She joined her cutting edge professional dance company and became a member of the dance company. She attended Al Mawakeb School, Emirates International School, as well as Dubai American Academy when she was living in Dubai. Shihabi participated in a number of school productions, and her acting teacher, Nancy Mock, inspired her to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
Shihabi relocated to New York City in 2007 when she was 18 years old, with her father’s permission, to pursue a career in acting. In spite of the fact that Shihabi did not complete a multi-year Bachelor’s certificate (she attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, an Acting Conservatory from 2008 to 2010), NYU deferred the requirement for a Bachelor’s qualification, and she graduated with her MFA in 2014.
She is the first Saudi Arabian woman, as well as the first woman born in the Middle East, to be accepted into the Graduate Acting programmes at both Juilliard and NYU. She is also the first woman born in the Middle East to be accepted to these institutions. In February of 2019, it was announced that Shihabi will be playing the central character of Dig 301 in the upcoming second season of the scientific fiction show on Netflix known as Altered Carbon.
