City & Guilds of London Art School UK

About:

Welcome to the City and Guilds of London Art School, a dedicated non-profit institution of higher education whose main goal is to train and inspire the next generation of creative professionals. We offer an important alternative to established arts and crafts education models in the UK. All of our courses have earned an excellent reputation and are respected by the professional public. Our Programs: BA (Hons) and MA in Fine Arts, BA (Hons) and MA in Cultural Heritage Preservation, Diploma and Post Graduate Professional Program in Historical Carving, and Foundation Thesis program in the direction of “Art and Design”. We invite you to view the pages with a description of each program and learn more about the structure and content of the course. The cost of studying at our art school is approximately the same as the standard rates in other universities in the UK; however, in our programs, we put a lot of emphasis on teachers and significantly increase the time of communication between students and teachers, each of whom is a practitioner.

We also offer social and academic scholarships to students; this is possible thanks to our patrons, who recognize the important contribution of our School to the development of art. Students entering our BA (Hons) programs may also, in some cases, qualify for a government education loan. TEACHING There is a very small number of students for each of our teachers, and courses and lectures go on all week. Classes are taught by artists and other artists who are recognized by the public and are at the peak of their creative careers; from them students constantly draw knowledge, get acquainted with various points of view and gain invaluable experience. The specialized profile of our School means that we put the main emphasis on the impeccable quality of education and a completely individual approach to each student. We believe in the power of curiosity, ambition and learning through experience. Each student receives motivation and support to reach new heights, overcome the established boundaries. Our education is broad and deep.

Our programs combine both courses aimed at developing specific skills, as well as lectures and seminars on the history of art, which are partly held on the basis of museums and galleries in London. The teaching of drawing is included in all our programs, and we have a special Graphic Workshop for all students in our School; studying subjects in parallel helps students develop a deep understanding of their creativity. LOCATION AND BUILDINGS Our School’s campus has been located in Kennington since 1879; we occupy several buildings: dedicated Georgian and Victorian studios located opposite the entrance to Kennington Underground Station, as well as large multi-purpose studios for the Foundation Diploma preparatory program, located in the neighboring building of the former warehouses built in the 1930s .

London’s galleries and museums are easily accessible; The National Gallery is a few stops away, and the East End galleries and museums in South Kensington are just 20 minutes on the Tube. This part of London is rapidly becoming a cultural quarter, with galleries such as Newport Street Gallery, Gasworks, Beaconsfield Gallery of Contemporary Art, and many others opening here; and they are all within walking distance of our School. We maintain relationships with cultural organizations, museums, galleries both locally (London) and globally, including being known in the museums of Venice, Tokyo and Berlin. We believe that the studio-workshop occupies a central role in art education, provides an opportunity to learn, experiment, create; that’s why we provide our students with a dedicated creative space where they can work indefinitely.

Each of these creative spaces is designed to make it as convenient as possible for students to work there – high ceilings, natural northern lighting; We also have a restoration laboratory. In addition, students have access to various resources, they can attend workshops in the drawing studio, printing room, workshop for working with wood, metal, glass; the Sackler Library and IT Center are also open to students, as well as small specialized spaces such as a foundry, a ceramic kiln, and a darkroom. SUPPORT AND COMMUNITY Our School has approximately 230 students and over 80 teachers. This allows us to work with each student on an almost individual basis and experience each one as an important and unique member of our creative community. We closely monitor the progress of each student and maintain active contacts with graduates, many of whom have achieved recognition and become well-known artists.

Another benefit for students is our collaboration with leading museums, creative centers and initiatives, art centers and organizations; this gives students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and also gives them an exhibition space for their first creative work.
